A taxi truck is exactly what it sounds like. You book a truck for a single job, it turns up, moves your load, and you pay for that trip rather than a full-day or ongoing rate. Road Linx Transport runs taxi trucks across Brisbane in sizes from one-tonne utes up to 12-tonne trucks, so you can get one item or a few pallets moved without hiring a truck by the day.
It's the quickest way to shift freight that's too big for a courier and too small to justify a full load.
When a taxi truck is the right call
Taxi trucks fill the awkward middle ground between a parcel courier and a booked freight run. You'll reach for one when:
- A pallet or two has to get across town today
- A courier ute is too small but a semi-trailer is overkill
- You've got a one-off delivery and don't want an account or a schedule
- Something has been left off a load and needs to catch up
- A customer needs stock now and can't wait for the next scheduled run
- Because you're paying for the job and not the day, it's cost-effective for exactly this kind of ad-hoc work.
Pick the right size truck
Sending the wrong size truck wastes money either way, so we size it to the load.
One-tonne utes and utes
For a handful of cartons, a single pallet or small items, a ute or flat-top ute does the job quickly and cheaply. This is the go-to for light, urgent runs around the metro.
Three to twelve-tonne trucks
When the load grows to several pallets or heavier gear, we step up to a mid-size or larger truck. Many of these carry a tail lift, so we can still deliver to sites without a forklift.
Fast dispatch across the metro
The value of a taxi truck is speed, so we keep vehicles moving around Brisbane and the Port ready to pick up. For local runs we can often have a truck to you the same day, and for genuinely urgent jobs our hot shot service runs a dedicated dash straight there.
You get a driver who knows the metro, load-rated restraint so your goods travel safely, and a signed POD on delivery if you need the paperwork.
No account, no fuss
You don't need an ongoing arrangement to use a taxi truck. Plenty of our taxi truck jobs are one-offs for businesses that usually run their own vehicles but have hit a busy day, a breakdown or an extra order. Call it in, we quote the trip, and it's done.
If you find you're booking taxi trucks often, we can set you up with an account or move you onto a standing run, whichever works out better for you.
Booking a taxi truck
- Tell us what you're moving, from where to where, and when.
- We size the truck and quote the trip.
- The truck is dispatched, loads, and delivers direct.
- You get a POD on request. No day rate, no ongoing commitment.
When to switch from taxi trucks to an account
A taxi truck is perfect for the odd job, but there's a point where booking them one by one stops making sense. If you're calling for a truck two or three times a week, you're doing more admin than you need to and probably not getting the best rate.
That's the moment to talk about an account or a standing run. You keep the on-demand flexibility for genuine one-offs, but your regular movements get set up once and priced better. We'll be upfront about it. If a regular arrangement would save you money over ad-hoc taxi trucks, we'll say so.
