A full truck load, or FTL, means one truck carries only your freight, direct from pickup to delivery, with nothing else on board. There's no consolidation with other customers' goods and no depot stops along the way. Road Linx Transport runs FTL freight out of Brisbane on 22 and 24-pallet trailers, so a full consignment moves in a single, dedicated trip.
FTL suits you when you've got enough freight to fill a trailer, when timing is tight, or when your goods simply shouldn't be handled more than they have to be.
When full truck load beats part loads
The choice between a full load and a part load usually comes down to volume, urgency and how delicate the freight is.
You're filling most of a trailer
Once your freight takes up the bulk of a trailer, FTL is normally cheaper per pallet than paying part-load rates, because you're not subsidising the handling of other people's goods. A 22 or 24-pallet trailer gives you a lot of deck to work with.
The delivery is time-critical
A dedicated truck goes straight there. Part-load freight waits for a full vehicle and often passes through a depot, which adds days. With FTL your transit time is basically the drive itself, so it's the faster option when a date can't slip.
The freight can't take extra handling
Every time freight is loaded, sorted and reloaded, the risk of damage climbs. FTL is loaded once and unloaded once. For fragile, high-value or neatly stacked loads, that single-handle trip is worth a lot.
Our FTL fleet
We match the trailer to your freight rather than forcing the load to fit one vehicle. Depending on the job, an FTL run might use a 22 or 24-pallet tautliner for weather-protected, side-loaded freight, a flat-top for craneable or strapped loads, or a drop-deck where height is a factor.
All of it runs load-rated restraint, and all of it is driven by operators who restrain to that rating. Your full load stays put from the first corner to the last.
Direct freight across the corridor
Most of our FTL work runs the South East Queensland corridor and into Northern NSW. Common lanes include Brisbane to the Gold Coast and Tweed, Brisbane out to Toowoomba and the Downs, and Brisbane north to the Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg and the Wide Bay.
Because the truck is yours for the trip, we can also do a dedicated multi-site drop if your full load is going to two or three related addresses. You still avoid the depot, and you still get the direct-transit speed.
Booking a full truck load
- Give us the pickup and delivery points, pallet count or load dimensions, and the date it has to land.
- We confirm the right trailer and a fixed FTL price for the run.
- We collect the whole consignment, restrain it to rating and head straight there.
- We deliver, and provide a signed POD on request.
Cover when you need a whole truck at short notice
Sometimes a full load appears with little warning. A container has to clear the Port, a big order lands, or another carrier has let you down. We keep FTL capacity for exactly these situations and can often turn a dedicated truck around quickly, including early morning and after-hours departures.
Keeping your FTL rate sharp
Full truck load pricing isn't just about distance. A big factor is whether the truck has work for the return leg. When we run a lane we know well, we can often line up freight for the trip back, and a truck that isn't returning empty is a truck we can price more keenly for you.
Booking ahead helps for the same reason. Give us a day or two of notice on a full load and we've got room to plan the run efficiently, rather than pulling a truck off other work at the last minute. Urgent FTL is always available, it just costs a little more for the priority.
